KwaZulu-Natal police are investigating a case of robbery after four men ransacked Life Westville Hospital on Tuesday morning and made off with TVs and patients’ belongings.
Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said: “[The hospital security guard] alleged that on July 9, he was performing his duties when he was accosted by four armed suspects who were travelling in a white vehicle and threatened him”.
According to Mbele, the incident took place at 05:00.
“The suspects then entered the hospital building where they removed two TVs from the wall and robbed patients of their cellphones and cash,” said Mbele.
According to Highway Mail, the patient who was robbed was waiting in the reception area with her husband when the suspects robbed them of their cellphones, a handbag containing cash, a wallet and wedding rings.
Hospital manager, Atish Maharaj, told IOL “counselling has been offered to those affected”.
The hospital is also going to assess the hospital’s current security measures, he told the publication.
