Royal Eagles coach Kosta Papic says their Nedbank Cup Last 32 clash against SuperSport United will be used to gauge their readiness for PSL promotion.

Eagles currently sit third in the Frst Division log standings, with 32 points from 20 games, and have every chance of making it to the promotion play-off at the end of the season.

With their main focus on securing their standing amongst the top three in the league, the Kwa-Zulu Natal-based outfit are not willing to bet on advancing in the Nedbank Cup.

Coming up against Matsatsantsa – who are strong contenders for the Absa Premiership title this season – Papic believes tonight’s clash will test his side’s chances of competing in the elite domestic league next season.

“To talk about the chances [of beating SuperSport], I’m not really good at that,” Papic tells

“We are just thinking about the promotion, which is very-very important for us, and we are going to fight for that.

“But the [Nedbank] Cup is also some kind of [gauge] for us so we can see exactly where we are when we come to the PSL.”

Kick-off of tonight’s clash at the Harry Gwala Stadium has been set for 19h30.
