Contrary to what was stated in Part II of the series, the people of Sierra Leone did not go to the polls on March 27 as scheduled by the National Electoral Commission . The run-off of Sierra Leone's presidential election was abruptly halted on Saturday, March 24, the day I arrived in Freetown to observe the polls as a member of the Commonwealth Observer Group .
