Italy head coach Roberto Mancini suggested that striker Mario Balotelli could be handed the national team captaincy amid the racial incident that occurred in their win over Saudi Arabia.
During the Balotelli's scoring return in the 2-1 victory over the World Cup-bound Saudi Arabia, a banner emerged in the crowd in Switzerland which appeared to be directed at the former Manchester City man,
The OGC Nice striker has since hit out at the banner which featured the words; 'my captain has Italian blood'.
However, in the wake of it, Mancini confirmed he will have no hesitation trusting the eccentric Balotelli with the leadership role in future.
"In the national team, the armband always goes to the player with the most caps," Mancini told reporters, as quoted by Football Italia.
"If Balotelli were in the starting XI and had more caps than the others, then he would be captain.
"The banner we saw in St Gallen was an ugly incident that should not have happened."
