Brazil legend Cafu, the highest capped player in the nation's history who represented the Selecao at four different FIFA World Cups, picked his all-time starting XI and there were some surprise omissions.

In an interview with The Guardian, the former AC Milan right-back omitted himself from the squad but selected Roberto Carlos, one of his teammates at the 1998, 2002 and 2006 World Cup campaigns.

While he conceded it may be an ultra-attacking line-up that could be exposed at the back, he defended his selections as 'the team would score five a game and outscore any opposition.'

World record transfer holder Neymar and FC Barcelona legend Ronaldinho are the surprise ommissions given their status in their homeland but with such an illustrious history to choose from, the 47-year-old admitted he was spoiled for choice.

Cafu didn't beat around the bush when he included Pele and Ronaldo as his two main strikers as he lauded the three-time World Cup winner as the greatest of all time.

"Picking the two attackers is easy. The first is the best player of all time – Pelé. Do I need to say anything more? The athlete of the century, he scored more than 1,000 goals and won the World Cup three times. He was complete. I don’t need to say anything more. Pelé is Pelé. No one can beat him," he said.

"Ronaldo was incredible too. You had to pay attention to both feet with Ronaldo as they were as good as each other. He was an example to other players, too. He suffered three serious injuries during his career and was always fighting against these problems. Ronaldo was essential to us in 2002 when we became world champions."
