Bidvest Wits midfielder Thabang Monare feels the points gained against Mamelodi Sundowns will serve them well in the long run.
The Clever Boys came from behind to draw 1-1 with the Brazilians, as Keagan Ritchie's free-kick cancelled out Hlompho Kekana's goal.
The point sees the Clever Boys remain top of the Absa Premiership standings heading into the international.
“Sometimes you have to dig deeper, you’re playing away if we came here with an ordinary performance we were not going to make it,” Monare told SuperSport TV.
“They are a good side we had to dig deep which I think we did today. This point will take us a long way.”
The former Jomo Cosmos midfielder added that the coach told them to press Sundowns high, a tactic that seemed to have been working.
“We should have won the game looking at the chances that we got but we’ll take the point," he added.
“If we press high we’ll be able to have chances. They like to play from the back and if we intercept the ball we don’t have to do much we’ll just have a few touches and we’re right at the goals. We couldn’t convert our chances but we’ll take the point."
