Former Highlands Park midfielder Lebogang Ditsele has been dropped from the Botswana national team as he allegedly reported to camp drunk and in the company of ladies.

Ditsele, who now plays for Jwaneng Galaxy in the Botswana Premier League, was included in the squad for the upcoming back-to-back 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Burkina Faso, but he will now have to watch the matches from the outside following his behaviour off the pitch.

He has since issued a public apology.

“Please allow me to convey my apology for what I did during the national team call-up that resulted in me being dropped from the national team camp. My behaviour was extremely inappropriate, immature, and lacked the respect for Botswana Football, the national team, Galaxy and the football supporters. It was bad behaviour I regret.

“It was embarrassing and I learnt that nobody appreciated my behaviour. In future, I have every intention of curbing my thoughtless actions and learn to adjust my behaviour befitting the Galaxy and football in general. The embarrassment I have caused to Galaxy is highly regretted.

“Again, I am sorry for my actions and I hope that we can put this matter behind us. I look forward to working cordially with you again.”

Ditsele has since been replaced by his Jwaneng teammate Tebogo Sosome.

Ditsele is also suspended by his club Jwaneng for reporting late after the Independence Celebrations on September 30. He is currently training with the Jwaneng development side.
