Baroka FC CEO Morgan Mammila says the team will face Mamelodi Sundowns without their head coach Wedson Nyirenda on the weekend.

Bakgaga will host a strong Sundowns side in the Telkom Knockout quarter-finals at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

According to Mammila, even though the former Kaizer Chiefs striker has left for Zambia to attend to a family bereavement, they won’t miss him for this encounter.

“Look, this weekend’s match is an easy match to play,” he tells

“Easy match to play, you don’t even need to coach. It’s a motivation by itself. Even though our coach won’t be available, you won’t even see that he is not there because playing against Sundowns is a motivation in itself.

“He lost his mother so he had to go home to bury his mother. So as a team we thought it was proper of us to give him at least a week to go and prepare for the funeral of the mother. The assistant coach (MDC side coach Matsimela Thopa) and the goalkeeper coach will be in charge.

“This one there is no need for motivation, it’s like when Barcelona is playing … if Barcelona plays can you fail to coach them? You just stand there on the line and go up and down. People think you are doing something and nothing, the players will do the job. If you want to win cups you must play for the final. So our aim is just to have a place in the final before we can think about winning it. I’m not saying we will win it, but our main target is to play in the final so that for the future we can win some championships.”

The Limpopo-based side beat Golden Arrows 2-0 in their cup opener.
