With Premier League joint-top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having notably forced his club-record move to Arsenal, his former coach at Borussia Dortmund has since revealed the shocking extents the African star went to.
Aubameyang became Arsene Wenger’s last signing at the club – the Frenchman shelling out £56million to take him to the Emirates.
He has been a huge hit in north London with 19 goals in 26 appearances for the club.
And former Dortmund coach Peter Stoger shed insight into how the Gabon superstar made his position untenable with the current Bundesliga leaders.
“He left me no other choice,” he said, as quoted by The Express. “He trained well four days of the week.
“But to underline his wish for a transfer, he skipped team meetings before games or refused to run during the final training.
“We did our best to keep him for at least another half a year, but Auba wasn’t ready for that.
“Honestly, I got along well with him although he kept me pretty busy for four weeks,” he added. “But Auba personally apologised to me before joining Arsenal.
He told me that his behaviour had nothing to do with my person and that he had felt my support.
