McCarthy, Bafana Bafana’s record scorer with 31 goals, completed his studies through the Irish Football Association and is due back in the country on Monday.

The 40-year-old jetted out soon after his side’s 3-0 win over AmaZulu in the league at Cape Town Stadium last Saturday.

City spokesman Vusi Mtimane said: “I can confirm the great news that our coach has secured his UEFA Pro Licence.

“He is expected back with the club on Sunday.”

McCarthy said on Instagram: “It’s official. UEFA Pro Licence done and dusted.”

The former Ajax Amsterdam striker, who is in his second season as a head coach, lifted his first trophy as a manager when the club won the MTN8 in September.
