Miss Africa 2018 winner’s hair catches fire during celebration fireworks

A beauty pageant winner’s hair caught on fire while she was accepting her prize on stage.

It was a terrible start to Dorcas Kasinde’s reign as Miss Africa 2018.

The Congolese contestant, 24, was initially in tears of joy but they soon turned to ones of misery.

Her hair was inexplicably engulfed by fireworks at the event in the Cross River State, in Nigeria.

She had no idea what was happening but luckily a member of production staff did and quickly extinguished the fire in her hair.

Ms Kasinde was checked over by medics afterwards and she was found not to have suffered any injuries.

The new Miss Africa posted a video later to reassure everyone she was OK, saying: ‘I’m good. My hair… it’s okay. I feel good now. Thank you!

‘I’m so happy and I want to thank you all to come tonight to support me and support me on social media.’

The $35,000 (£27,500) cheque and new truck she got for winning the contest probably helped her get over the embarrassment.
