Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has called for patience over wonderkid Callum Hudson-Odoi after the club reportedly rejected a £20 million bid from Bayern Munich.
Hudson-Odoi, 18 has made just six appearances this season, four of which have come in the Europa League and one arriving in the Community Shield.
He displayed glimpses of his talent, excelling in a 4-0 win against PAOK in November, but has been restricted to just six appearances this season.
According to Sky Sports, the English giants have rejected a £20m bid from Bayern Munich and have told the German club that they value him closer to £40m.
“He’s a very good player, the potential is for becoming a great player, and now he has to improve,” Sarri said, as per BBC Sports. “He has to improve, I think, in movement without the ball.
“As a winger, he has to improve in the defensive phase, but he has the potential to become a very important player, not only for English football I think but for European football.”
However, the Italian tactician, who’s known for not rotating his squad, admits the 2017 U-17 FIFA World Cup winner’s playing time won’t increase for the sake of appeasing certain sections of the support base.
“Also the fans sometimes, also the club sometimes, and so I am in the middle. I have to win.
“It’s not easy at this level to take the young players from the academy and he’s ready to play, not only here, everywhere in Europe.”
