Chippa United defenders Thabo Nthethe and James Okwuosa have been tipped to leave the club as part of a clearout in the January transfer window.

Nthethe only joined Chippa in July last year from Absa Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns, and has made nine league appearances this season.

However, the 34-year-old is negotiating with the club to cancel his contract, according to a source at the relegation-threatened outfit.

Nigerian centre-back Okwuosa, who initially joined the Chilli Boys in 2012 from Ajax Cape Town, is in similar talks with management, having not featured at all in 2018/19.

“The club is set to release the transfer list in the next few days,” says the source.

“James Okwuosa and Thabo Nthethe are leading the list of players set for an exit at Chippa United.”

Chippa recently brought utility player Phetso Maphanga back to the club on loan from Orlando Pirates and are assessing Uthongathi FC attacking midfielder Celimpilo Ngema, but they were beaten to the services of Zimbabwean striker Charlton Mashumba by high-flying Polokwane City.

The Joel Masutha-coached side are second-from-bottom on the table with 12 points from 15 matches, and will resume their fight for survival against cash-strapped Bloemfontein Celtic at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane, East London on Friday.
