Argentina legend Diego Maradona is said to have gone AWOL from his current club just days before the new league campaign commences.
Maradona, 58, is widely considered as one of Argentina’s greatest ever footballers but has struggled to maintain that legacy upon venturing into management.
Currently in his sixth managerial role, the controversial character is claimed to have gone AWOL ahead of his Dorados’ new season in the Mexican second-tier.
This comes after the 1986 FIFA World Cup winner nearly led them to promotion last season, having fallen at the final hurdle in the play-off defeat to Atletico San Luis.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Maradona has gone missing without anyone associated with the club knowing his current wearabouts.
The publication states the recent departure of assisstant coach Luis Islas was the tipping point and it now remains to be seen whether he will return to Los Dorados for the 2019 season.
