Atletico Madrid’s journey in the Copa del Rey came to an end, while Sevilla secured their spot in the quarter-finals.

Atletico Madrid 3-3 Girona

Atletico Madrid crashed out of the Copa del Rey on the away goals rule following a 3-3 draw with Girona on Wednesday.

The first leg encounter ended 1-1 at the Wanda Metropolitano last weekend.

Nikola Kalinic put Atletico ahead after 12 minutes, before Valery and Cristhian Stuani hit back for the visitors.

Angel Correa and Antoine Griezmann looked to have sealed Atletico’s spot in the next round when the put the hosts 3-2 up with six minutes remaining.

However, Girona secured their spot in the last eight after Seydou Doumbia netted the equaliser in the 88th minute to make it 4-4 on aggregate.

Sevilla 0-1 Athletic Bilbao

Sevilla secured their ticket to the quarter-finals of the cup despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Athletic Bilbao in the second leg.

The hosts came into the clash with a healthy 3-1 lead from the first leg, where they claimed three away goals.

Unfortunately for Bilbao, Gorka Guruzeta’s 77th minute strike in the second half was not enough to save their campaign.
