Tornado FC head coach Tshepo Motsoeneng is aware the odds are against them in Sunday’s tough Nedbank Cup last-32 match against Kaizer Chiefs.

The 39-year-old former goalkeeper was recently at Absa Premiership side Chippa United working as Joel Masutha’s assistant before he was shown the door.

Motsoeneng is now back in charge of the ABC Motsepe League outfit.

“When we qualified we knew what we will be up against,” Motsoeneng tells KickOff.com.

“We are planning to go forward, not to just add numbers in the last-32. It’s a blessing in a disguise that we got Chiefs. They always say it’s motivating to play Chiefs but I disagree with that. We can’t say it’s a motivation because there are a lot of things going through your head as a player when you are playing Chiefs, because you are playing against guys you see on TV. It’s a star-studded team, so you’ve got to do a lot as a coach. Chiefs is the biggest team; they have the biggest following all around the country and in the PSL.

“The fringe players are the dangerous players. Fringe players don’t get a chance to play, so they always want to prove themselves. It’s either your [Ryan] Moon, your [Gustavo] Paez, your [Bruce] Bvuma, all of them they are looking to raise their hand to say we are ready to play. The stadium will be packed but at the end of the day what counts is the result. We have to score goals. In a cup it’s always about the result. In a league game you can play for a point. But in a cup there has to be a winner. But at the end of the day we have to play football. Like I said, we have to wait and check. I don’t want to talk about what Chiefs have done, or the past games that I have watched. What counts on the day is are your players tough enough to play football?”

Kick-off is at 15h00 at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane, near East London.
