Orlando Pirates legend Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi has shared his take on the weekend’s Soweto Derby as he reflected on the tactical battle between Ernst Middendorp and Milutin Sredojevic.

Pirates were made to fight back from a goal down to earn a point against arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in their Absa Premiership clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

It was a game poised to meet all expectations as the two sides have played an exciting brand of football in recent times, while their managers have previously faced off in the same fixture some 12 years ago.

Though there were just two goals in the tie, Vilakazi feels both sets of supporters got value for money given the end-to-end excitement created by both attacks.

“I was not disappointed. The only thing I was looking at was the response from Chiefs and it was just as I expected, which is why I feel everyone got their money’s worth,” Vilakazi told from a VIP suite hosted by Shield South Africa on Saturday.

“I doubt the fans were disappointed that neither team won the game but in terms of the football – from the first whistle Chiefs were on top but Pirates gained their strength and fought back.

“Overall, I’d say the game was very balanced and the result was fair for both teams.”

Having previously been a part of the last meeting between ‘Micho’ and Ernst that also ended 1-1 back in December 2006, ‘Tso’ feels little has changed in their respective approaches and thus he foresaw a similar result.

“These two coaches are very smart – that’s why it was a draw because they know each other and besides the players that have changed, their preparations haven’t changed much,” he adds.

“To be honest, I knew it would be a draw. The only thing I was unsure of was who would be in goal for Chiefs, and when I saw Akpeyi, I thought maybe we would see something different. But I think he did well.”
