MADISON (WKOW) — A group of local girls are flying to South Africa this Summer to teach kids there how to play soccer.
On Thursday, Nina Malak and Lexi Savola with the Rush Wisconsin Soccer club, joined the Wake Up Wisconsin to talk about their trip and an upcoming fundraiser.
The girls are teaming up with Project Playground in South Africa to inspire the girls there to get involved in athletics and show that women’s sports should and can be taken just as seriously as men’s sports.
On Sunday, February 17, the public is invited to a fundraiser at Lone Girl Brew Pub from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Malak and Savola say they will recieve 10 percent of the sales and will also be accepting donations of soccer equipment to bring to the girls they meet in South Africa.
