Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Jadon Sancho says his goal in football is make players look up to him and say ‘wow’ like Brazil legend Ronaldinho did over his glittering career.
Sancho, 18, has been one of the breakout stars in Europe this season with remarkable performances with the maturity that far exceeds his tender years.
With eight goals and 13 assists in 29 games across all competitions under manager Lucien Favre, the £8 million (R145m) the Bundesliga leaders forked out to Manchester City in 2017 appears to be an absolute bargain.
And speaking to Goal about his meteoric rise, the England international admits he was inspired during his formative years by none other than Brazil icon Ronaldinho Gaucho, who is widely considered as one of the most talented playmakers of his generation.
“I can’t really speak for everyone, I can only speak on my situation really. My situation was that I just wanted to play football,” he said before opening up about his ‘role model’.
“I’ve always wanted to be a professional footballer, make people watch me and say ‘woah,’ like how I used to watch Ronaldinho and go ‘wow, I want to be like him one day.’
“Hopefully, I could become that level one day and players will look up to me and say wow,” Sancho added. “The reason behind that is how he just beat people with ease and did things that no-one else was doing at his time. That’s why it was him.”
Sancho has earned three senior England caps since his blistering start to life in Germany.
