A former striker of Zamalek has reportedly been sentenced to three years imprisonment for failing to pay his agent after his move to the African giants.
Benjamin Acheampong joined Zamalek in 2017 after relative success during stints in Spain, Ghana and domestic rivals El Dakhleya.
However, he saw his contract terminated ‘for no reason’ and vowed never to return to the North African country upon his exit.
“I have been insulted in Zamalek over the past period,” the Al-Shamal striker told FilGoal in September last year.
“What is happening has nothing to do with football, will I be ordered by the president of the club?.”
He added that he received no settlement upon his departure but now, according to KingFut, the Ghana youth international has found himself in hot water over the controversial exit.
Acheampong allegedly breached the contract between him and his agent Wael El-Kharabawy as he failed to pay EGP 400,000, (R330 000) which is the sum both parties had agreed upon prior to his transfer.
As a result, he was sentenced to three years in prison and has been forced to pay an EGP 400,000 (R330 000) fine after he failed to appear to any of his court hearings.
The player himself has been left dismayed by the Egyptian court ruling and insisted to Happy FM, that he was not aware of the case made against him.
“Yesterday after our game I got many calls and messages about my sentence. I was really shocked about the news, People have published it without hearing from me,” he said.
“No court has even served me or ask me to appear in court of any issues. I am not owing anybody so I am talking to my lawyer to pick up the issue.”
