Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic was made to defend his side’s confidence ahead of their CAF Champions League decider against Horoya last weekend.
Pirates were upbeat ahead of their trip to Conakry, where the home side had not lost in their previous 14 matches in the continental competition and felt they could get the necessary win to advance to the quarterfinals.
Instead, the Buccaneers were put to shame as they failed in their quest to beat the Guinean champions and ended up with a 2-1 defeat at the 28 September Stadium last Saturday.
When quizzed by local Guinean media over his confidence leading up to the crunch Group B encounter, Sredojevic explained that it is their duty to speak boldy over the club’s ambitions.
“I have no right to sit here if I don’t carry confidence, it’s normal. As a coach, it’s your duty towards millions of supporters and this badge, that you always look to win,” said Micho.
“And in a way, I think we showed in a game against very good opposition that we are a team that football could at any moment go in our favour.
“I will not look in any other direction except critically towards us and why we did not use our chances in the first half, and I would do that even if we had won.
“Before the match you look to be confident and inject that confidence in your players in order to give the best performance.”
