Matt Harvey's Mets career is over as struggling pitcher refuses minor league assignment, will be DFA'd

The media was unaware at the time, but Harvey was about to face the equivalent of the firing squad, literally, when Mets general manager Sandy Alderson, assistant GM John Ricco, manager Mickey Callaway and pitching coach Dave Eiland met with the former All-Star pitcher and requested that he take a minor-league assignment. Harvey refused and immediately authored his own pink slip from the club that drafted him in the first round (7th overall pick) of the 2010 draft.
