The Green Bay Packers are taking another chance on a tight end in the free agent market while releasing one of Aaron Rodgers' favorite targets.
Jimmy Graham is headed to Wisconsin, according to multiple reports, while Jordy Nelson will be released.
Graham caught 10 TD passes for Seattle in 2017, tops among NFL tight ends. He has 69 scoring grabs in an eight-year career split between the Seahawks and Saints.
It's the first big move by new Pack general manager Brian Gutekunst, who will apparently be more aggressive in free agency than predecessor Ted Thompson. (However Thompson did sign veteran tight ends Jared Cook and Martellus Bennett in recent years, though neither made it to a second season with the Packers.)
Nelson had one of his least productive seasons in 2017 (53 catches, 482 yards, 6 TDs), though that largely seemed to be a function of Rodgers' absence with a broken collarbone. Nelson had at least 80 catches and 1,200 yards in 2013, 2014 and 2016. A preseason knee injury cost him the entire 2015 season.
