'No evidence' of shots fired at Northwestern graduate dorm

Police descended on a graduate dorm west of Northwestern University’s main campus in Evanston Wednesday for reports of shots fired, but authorities said they found "no evidence of a victim, scene or gunman."

An alert went out to students and staff shortly before 2:30 p.m., warning them to stay away from the area of Emerson and Maple streets, where Engelhart Hall is located.

School spokesman Alan Cubbage said university officials had received a report of shots inside Engelhart Hall, which houses apartments for Northwestern graduate students and their families.

Northwestern University police said in a tweet that there was a “person with gun on Evanston campus. If on campus, seek shelter in safe place and stay until further notice. Others keep away.”

But Evanston police said they found no trace of a shooting.
