An extended dry season, runaway wildfires and a lack of foreign currency for maize seed, fertilizer and fuel suggest Zimbabwe’s small-scale farmers may face a tough growing season ahead, officials and farmers say. But the country has seen a surge in areas burned this year, compared to last, in part as dry conditions allow fires to spread, according to the national Environmental Management Agency .
