SuperSport United advanced to the Nedbank Cup last 16, after goals from Thabo Mnyamane and Jeremy Brockie secured a 2-1 win over Royal Eagles.
Stuart Baxter’s took the lead after 10 minutes as Thabo Mnyamane latched onto Jeremy Brockie’s fine pass, before firing home close range.
SuperSport nearly doubled their lead in the 19th minute, but Eagles goalkeeper, Joslain Mayebi produced a superb save to keep out Mandla Masango’s effort.
The visitors were then dealt a blow on 22 minutes as Mario Booysen was forced off with an injury. Grant Kekana was his replacement.
Eagles then upped the tempo and eventually leveled matters after 29 minutes courtesy of a fine left-footed strike from Mzwandile Dlamini.
The National First Divion side certainly ended the half stronger then SuperSport, although they were unable to add to their advantage.
Baxter’s charges were carving out chances in the second half, with Onismor Bhasera heading over the crossbar after 51 minutes.
SuperSport eventually restored their lead in the 74th minute when Bhaserea’s fine cross was headed home by Jeremy Brockie.
Eagles pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, and also had a goal ruled out, but SuperSport managed to see off a late surge to claim the victory.
The victory means SuperSport’s name will be in among those for the Last 16 draw on Thursday evening.
