Tunisia’s Esperance, Morocco’s Wydad stroll into Champions League semis – Africa – Sports

Holders Esperance of Tunisia and 2017 winners Wydad of Morocco recorded comprehensive wins to stroll into the African Champions League semifinals on Saturday.

Esperance, enjoying a 3-2 first-leg advantage on the road, secured a deserved 3-1 home win over Algeria’s CS Constantine to continue their bid towards a second straight title.

Impressive attacking midfielder Saad Bguir scored a brilliant first-half brace to give Esperance a commanding lead, the first being a sumptuous left-foot volley from the edge of the area after he made the most of a half-hearted defensive clearance.

Dylan Bahamboula gave Constantine some hope with a curling effort in the 62nd minute but Cameroonian midfielder Franck Kom ensured the win four minutes from time, heading home on the rebound after the keeper fumbled at a free kick.

Wydad, who played out a 0-0 draw with Horoya AC in the first leg, thrashed the Guineans 5-0 in Rabat to book a last-four berth.

A double from Walid El Karti and goals from Abdellatif Noussir, Mohamed Nahiri and Rachid Housni lifted Wydad through after they produced a vivid attacking display.

Esperance will face four-time winners TP Mazembe while Wydad will take on South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns. The quartet are the winners of the past four editions of the Champions League.
