Orlando Pirates winger Thembinkosi Lorch was one of the standout players in the recently-concluded season, drawing praise from coach Milutin Sredojevic.
The Buccaneers finished the season as runners-up behind Mamelodi Sundowns, after the 25-year-old emerged as a key player – doing enough to command four nominations in the PSL awards.
His efforts were noted by his Serbian mentor, who revealed that he had been impressed with what the player has been able to produce despite his slight frame, even going as far as touting him as the best in the country.
“‘Nyoso’ has throughout the season really been a role model and leading by example in each and every match, giving his best,” Sredojevic said.
“Sometimes we were left wondering where he gets all the energy with the body that he has, but he’s what I want to call an atomic ant.
“He’s a person who has really shown to everyone – with all due respect to other players, there are several of them and I have no right to mention names in order not to miss anyone – that if anything is to be put on the table then he is our best player of the season, and I also believe in South African football at present.
“With sincere appreciation to him and his teammates for each moment of their efforts, it has been a real honour, pleasure and special privilege coaching these wonderful boys.”
With Pirates looking to add some silverware to their dusty cabinet in the upcoming season, Sredojevic said he hoped Lorch continues from where he left off in the previous campaign.
