Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) president Felton Kamambo has vowed to ensure there are no squabbles between Warriors players and the football mother body in the build up to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament to be held in Egypt.
Zimbabwe’s build up to the 2017 AFCON tournaments was disastrous following a stand-off between Zifa and Warriors players over allowances and bonuses.
The problem was eventually resolved, but as the Warriors gear up for their 4th dance at the AFCON finals set of r Egypt, Kamambo said the current administration is doing all it can to ensure there is harmony between players and the football body.
“We as Zifa we are doing all we can to make sure that we have flawless preparations ahead of the COSAFA and AFCON tournaments salted for South Africa and Egypt respectively. We would like ensure that all the players have to focus on is playing football rather than worrying over allowances and bonuses,” he said.
In the run up to Zimbabwe’s final AFCON qualifier against Congo Brazzaville, the issue of allowances and bonuses was topical with the Zifa administration and players eventually coming to an agreement behind closed doors.
The Warriors are set to begin camp on Monday ahead of Zimbabwe’s participation at the COSAFA Cup tournament to be held in South Africa.
After the COSAFA participation, Zimbabwe will then shift focus to AFCON where the Warriors will meet Uganda, Egypt and the Democratic Republic of Congo in the group phase of the competition.
