Cricket World Cup betting preview 2019 — South Africa v Bangladesh

Just one match into the World Cup and South Africa is under pressure.

After an underwhelming performance in the tournament opener against England, the Proteas desperately need a win before they face India on Wednesday.

The Proteas’ loss to England posed nearly as many questions as a TV quiz show.

Should David Miller be playing instead of Aiden Markram or JP Duminy?

Can the team be a force without legendary paceman Dale Steyn who is expected to miss again through injury?

Is the great Hashim Amla past it as a match-defining opener?

MATCH REPORT: INSIDE AUSTRALIAN’S OPENING WIN

South Africa can’t afford a slip-up against the Tigers. The South Africans have won 17 of their 20 meetings. Should an upset occur here, then Faf du Plessis and his men should pack their bags for home.

SUGGESTED BET

— 1 unit on Lungi Ngidi ($4.50) to take the most wickets for South Africa. Ngidi and fellow quick Kagiso Rabada possess the sort of pace and bounce that will trouble all sub-continent batsmen this tournament. Importantly, they bowl in the prime wicket-taking periods at the start of the innings and the death. I’m going for Ngidi after his three-wicket haul against England.

— 0.5 unit on Quinton de Kock (most runs for SA) and Lungi Ngidi (most wickets for SA) double at $18 at the TAB. De Kock looks a class above his South African teammates with the bat.

— 0.5 unit on Faf du Plessis (most runs for SA) and Lungi Ngidi (most wickets for SA) double at $21. Du Plessis was in strong form before the World Cup and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the captain steer his ship to a much-needed victory.

WASH-UP FROM GAMES 3 & 4 ON SATURDAY NIGHT

New Zealand v Sri Lanka

Suggested bet was: 1 unit on Trent Boult ($3.50 at TAB) for most NZ wickets. Boult snagged one as Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry took three each.

Australia v Afghanistan

Suggested bet was: 1 unit on Pat Cummins ($4 at TAB) for most Australia wickets. He clean bowled 10th wicket to finish with three, equal with Adam Sampa. We get half a win.

Balance: +0.7 unit.
