Origi and Salah score goals as Reds win UCL [video]

Watch: Champions League final goals

Liverpool are kings of Europe for the sixth time after winning the Champions League final against Tottenham in Madrid on Saturday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s men book-ended a nervy showpiece with a pair of goals to see off their English Premier League rivals.

It was also a result to end Klopp’s personal cup final hoodoo on a balmy Spanish night.

The Reds took an astounding lead at the Wanda Metropolitano when Sadio Mane’s dink into the area was adjudged to have hit the arm of Moussa Sissoko after just 27 seconds.

A check with the VAR assistant couldn’t save the midfielder, before Mohamed Salah stepped up to thrash his penalty beyond Hugo Lloris.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was next to threaten, fizzing a low effort wide to the left of goal.

Lloris was back in action on 38 minutes when opposite full-back Andy Roberton forced him into a fingertip save over his own crossbar from the edge of the box.

It was all red in the closing stages of the first period, with Salah forcing another corner with a speculative effort.

Spurs tried to forage at the start of the second half but failed to make much headway against the organized ranks of the Reds.

Dele Alli forced a half-chance on 54 minutes but couldn’t rearrange his feet in time to test Alisson.

But it was veteran James Milner who almost put the game to bed with a left-footed strike that arrowed wide to the right of goal in the 69th minute.

The lesser-spotted Son Heung-min sprung into life when he found Alli on the edge of the box, only for the England international to loop a limp effort into the grasp of Alisson.

Alli came a little closer when he nodded Kieran Trippier’s cross over under the close watch of Joel Matip.

All of a sudden Spurs were growing into it, with Son and semi-final hero Lucas Moura calling Alisson into a pair of saves.

The Brazilian keeper was on his toes again, diving to his left to paw away a Christian Eriksen free kick as the tension rose.

But that was done away with on 87 minutes when Divock Origi swept in the second to put the result beyond doubt.

The Belgian had come on as a second half substitute and kept his composure to add to his two semi-final second leg goals against Barcelona by picking out the bottom right-hand corner.

It was more than enough to ensure the Merseysiders were crowned kings of the continent for the first time since their magical win over AC Milan in 2005.
