Kaizer Chiefs set sights on Baroka skipper

In their bid to rebuild after one of their worst seasons, Kaizer Chiefs have Baroka captain Mduduzi Mdantsane on their radar, according to KickOff.

With a little over a week before the transfer window opens, PSL clubs are hard at work behind the scenes – and it’s no different for the Soweto giants , who are looking to beef up a squad exposed to be lacking in depth in the previous campaign.

Having announced one signing so far, the Glamour Boys are said to be negotiating with the Telkom Knockout champions in an effort to pry away their skipper, who is coming off a breakthrough season.

The 24-year-old was instrumental in leading his side to a maiden top-flight title, where he was central in seeing off the likes of Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits, before slaying Chiefs’ bitter rivals Orlando Pirates in the final.

Mdantsane has previous donned Amakhosi’s famous black and gold, as he came up through their reserves before being released by the club.

After a short stint at third-tier outfit Baberwa, the midfielder surfaced in the colours of Baroka, where he was handed the armband, and impressed enough to draw attention from some of the big guns.

Having had a taste of the country’s biggest rivalry while playing for the the juniors, Mdantsane has previously expressed a desire to play in the Soweto Derby.

“I will be happy to play in the big Soweto Derby before I hang up my boots, for whichever side between Chiefs and Pirates,” he told KickOff in February.
