Ghana head into the Africa Cup of Nations as one of the favourites to win the tournament, having lifted the title on four previous occasions.
The Black Stars face Benin on the back of two disappointing friendly performances against Namibia and South Africa but manager James Appiah has one of the strongest squads in the competition to select from.
Ghana are without Daniel Amartey, Nicholas Opoku, Nuhu Musah, Jeffrey Schlupp, Alfred Duncan and Harrison Afful due to injury while Ebenezer Ofori, Majeed Waris, Mohammed Alhassan, Abdul Fatawu and Yaw Yeboah were all dropped after a training camp in Dubai.
However, Appiah still has world class talent at his disposal including Manchester United and Arsenal transfer target Thomas Partey.
The Atletico Madrid midfielder has openly admitted that he wants to play in England and is expected to move on this summer, so the 2019 AFCON tournament provides an excellent shop window.
Partey will be integral to Ghana’s success and is expected to be joined by Deportivo Alaves ace Mubarak Wakaso in central midfield, with the duo supporting an eye-catching attacking quartet.
Inter Milan star Kwadwo Asamoah should line up in a No 10 role, flanked by Christian Atsu and Andre Ayew.
And the latter’s younger brother Jordan Ayew is likely to lead the line in preference to Black Stars veteran Asamoah Gyan.
Reading defender Andy Yiadom should start at right-back while Lumor Agbenyenu is expected to get the nod on the opposite flank.
Chelsea’s Baba Rahman, who has spent the past season on loan at Reims, is another option for Appiah while Kassim Nuhu and and John Boye could form a central defensive partnership.
Indeed, Boye is one of six players in the current squad that featured in the semi-final defeat to eventual winners Cameroon back in 2017 and will be counted on to provide vital experience.
Finally, Richard Ofori may get the nod in goal over Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Felix Anan – having kept 10 clean sheets in 34 appearances for Maritzburg United this season.
