Wilfred Ndidi and Nigeria are safely through to the Africa Cup of Nations knockout stages after a second straight win at the tournament in Egypt.
The Leicester City midfielder and the Super Eagles were the first country to book a spot in the last 16, Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo heading in a second-half winner in a 1-0 success against Guinea on Wednesday evening.
Added to the three points picked up in the weekend’s 1-0 victory over Burundi, for which Ndidi was named man of the match, and Nigeria have sealed their passage to the knockout stages at the earliest possible opportunity.
Nigeria play their final Group B game against Madagascar, on Sunday, June 30, where they will need a point to secure top spot and a favourable draw in the last 16.
The knockout stages begin on July 5, with the final not played until July 19. If Nigeria go all of the way, Ndidi may not be seen back at City until the week before the new campaign kicks off against Wolves on Sunday, August 11.
