A video posted on Facebook “showing” a knife attack in London, actually took place in South Africa, it has emerged.
The widely-shared video was posted online with the caption “Meanwhile in Sadiq khans London”.
It showed a man being robbed at knifepoint and was portrayed as another violent incident in the British capital, where knife crime has become a real issue in recent years.

The video was shared on Twitter by among others a well-known right-wing personality, Paul Joseph Watson.
He later clarified his original tweet saying: “Update: Some people are telling me this is from South Africa. London appears to be sharing some of the same problems with crime they have.”
The news that the video was “fake” emerged on the same day as another grisly day in London after one man died and two others were injured in a stabbing incident in Croydon.
Two males, both believed to be in their late teens, were rushed to hospital suffering knife wounds.
A third, also believed to be in his late teens, died at the scene in Purley.
One of those injured was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

A witness told MyLondon: “The whole road [has been] closed with about 10 police cars. There was a stabbing on the High Street and then a stabbing at the station.”
It is at least the 34th fatal stabbing in London this year.
In 2018 there were a total of 135 knife murders in the capital.
