Springboks lock Eben Etzebeth was allegedly involved in a pub fight near Cape Town last month.

Eben Etzebeth’s participation at the Rugby World Cup could swing on a decision from South Africa’s National Prosecuting Authority.

The NPA will decide this week whether Etzebeth should be prosecuted following allegations the Springboks star was involved in a pub fight last month.

According to Rapport, South Africa Rugby chief executive Jurie Roux told Etzebeth that should the allegations be true, he would have to withdraw from the Rugby World Cup.

The 27-year-old, a key figure in South Africa’s squad, is also alleged to have racially abused someone in the pub. However, Etzebeth has denied any wrongdoing.

“It is completely untrue and unfounded to claim that I physically or racially abused anyone in Langebaan as has been reported on social media. Multiple witnesses can corroborate that,” he said.

“I am and will always strive to be a true ambassador to this beautiful rainbow nation and the sport that I love.”
