Zambian striker Lazarous Kambole has found the net in a Kaizer Chiefs fixture, but that goal will not have inspired too many celebrations from the Khosi faithful as it benefited the opposition.
The 27-year-old was on the scoresheet at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium as his former club, Zesco United thrashed Amakhosi in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the Caf Confederations Cup in January.
Fast forward five months later, the player was unveiled in the famous gold and black of the Soweto giants, and is one of five new recruits who have been added to Ernst Middendorp squad ahead of the ongoing season.
Kambole not bothered by slow start
However, despite coming highly recommended – as far as his goal-scoring prowess are concerned – he is the only one out of the three new signings used by the German so far to not have found the net, four matches deep into the campaign.
Speaking ahead of Chiefs’ next fixture – a home game against Polokwane City – Kambole says he is not frustrated by his luck in front of goal.
“Football is like that,” said Kambole.
“Of course scoring is one of my attributes‚ so I’m actually working on that, but I am not frustrated.
“The pressure is making me to push even more harder at training.”
However, the striker – who has started all four matches – is looking forward to finally breaking his duck at Naturena.
“It’s very important because I just want to give the supporters something to smile about.”
Kaizer Chiefs on the right track
Despite no goals from Kambole, Chiefs have displayed a stark improvement in performance compared to how they fared in the previous season.
The Glamour Boys sit pretty at the top of the league standings with three wins so far, the only blemish in their record being the one-all draw at home to Supersport United.
Kambole is happy with what the team has achieved so far.
“We are on the right track‚ we are doing well.
“But this is the right time to be humble and continue working hard in training, and I hope, and I know that this season we will win silverware.
Winning the league title would be a huge relief for Chiefs fans, as they are going on five years without adding to their trophy cabinet.
Their new man is feeling the pressure the club is under to deliver.
“The pressure is there for us to win the title this year because we have not won anything for the past four years.”
