Wales team announcement live as Warren Gatland names strong Rugby World Cup side to face Georgia

After a bombshell week in Welsh rugby, the time has nearly come for the players to do the talking on the field.

The Rugby World Cup is officially underway and it’s not long until Wales take the field against Georgia in their Pool D tournament opener on Monday.

Warren Gatland has named his team to face Georgia on Monday, giving Dragons back rower Aaron Wainwright his Rugby World Cup debut following a meteoric rise to prominence over the last 14 months. Ross Moriarty loses out in the back row and is dropped to the bench.

In the front row, Wyn Jones starts at loosehead, with Nicky Smith missing out.

Gatland has named a strong side, although the Wales boss has previously suggested the short six-day turnaround before the Australia match could impact on his thinking. You can see Wales’ full fixtures and kick-off times here.

The full Wales team to face Georgia: Liam Williams, George North, Jonathan Davies, Hadleigh Parkes, Josh Adams, Dan Biggar, Gareth Davies; Wyn Jones, Ken Owens, Tomas Francis, Jake Ball, Alun Wyn Jones, Aaron Wainwright, Justin Tipuric, Josh Navidi.

Replacements: Elliot Dee, Nicky Smith, Dillon Lewis, Aaron Shingler, Ross Moriarty, Tomos Williams, Rhys Patchell, Leigh Halfpenny.
