FORMER Hibs hitman Simon Murray has lifted the lid on his cruciate injury hell in South Africa.
Murray was crocked in Bidvest Wits’ second game of the new league season.
He faces nine months on the sidelines — but is determined to bounce back.
Ex-Hibee Murray, who also played for both Dundee clubs, said: “I got a bad one. I ruptured my ACL and tore my meniscus on the outside of the leg.
“It was the first three minutes of the game and I just landed on it awkwardly. I heard it go straight away. But I’m already making good progress.
“The surgeon was really happy but the doctor won’t let me play for nine months.
“I’ve never been injured but, the surgeon said there was scar tissue from a time when I must have damaged it before.
“It probably wasn’t working at 100 per cent but hopefully that’s a good sign for when I come back. I’ll be back to 100 per cent instead of where I was before.
“Even though I’m injured, I’m still going into training. I’m only there an hour so I’ve got the whole day to appreciate seeing my son Noah grow up.”
Murray, 27, quit Scotland last year to sign for Bidvest Wits and — prior to the injury nightmare — was loving life in South Africa.
He added: “It’s a top country, although we do miss some things about Scotland.
“I can’t just let my girlfriend walk around the streets with the pram, so your freedom is taken away from you a bit in Johannesburg.
“It can be dangerous at times and it’s just the little things like that, things you take for granted back in Scotland, that we’ve found to be different.”
Dundee-born Murray revealed: “There were a couple of teams who wanted to take me back to Scotland in the summer there but the club wouldn’t let me go.
“I would like to go to Australia and try to get into the A-League then come back to Scotland and do my coaching badges.
“My son is still only six months old but I will need to set a base somewhere when he’s ready for school.
“If I do a couple of years travelling and another season here then come back to Scotland that would be nice.”
