Gloucester Rugby v Bath Rugby team news and build-up as South Africa international returns

Jaco Kriel and Freddie Clarke will make their first appearances of the season in Gloucester’s Premiership Rugby Cup game against Bath.

The back-row pair will get some minutes under their belts before the league campaign begins away to Sale eight days later having missed the first three games with Mark Atkinson making his first start after returning from injury as a replacement last week against Harlequins.

It is an otherwise young side, academy second row Harry Butler, who went off injured playing for Hartpury against Newcastle last weekend, will make his first start for Gloucester.

Recent signing Corné Fourie is named in the matchday squad for the first time and there is a welcome return on the bench for Charlie Sharples after his return from injury.

The game also acts as Henry Trinder’s testimonial game, marking 12 years of service for the centre, but he is currently out injured.

Forwards Ben Morgan, Fraser Balmain and Josh Hohneck have not played at all in the Premiership Cup campaign.

Jamie Roberts starts for Bath after a stint working as an ITV pundit at the Rugby World Cup in Japan but they have also picked a relatively young side.

Both sides are bottom of their groups, Gloucester out of the competition after three straight defeats in Pool B with Bath only having a slim chance of getting out of Pool C after one win so far.

We will have live updates of the latest throughout the day in our build-up to the game.
